I finally got my Mac computer back. We had the info from our old computer transferred over to the new one. Then I went to my “Meet Your Mac” class. I learned where the new info is stored and a few things about the Mac vs. my old PC. Most of it will be learned from just playing around with the functions, though I do have access to more classes for the rest of the year, as well as ongoing free workshops. One of my favorite features that I’ve been playing around with is of course the photos. I am anxious to get to spend some more time doing that. It is amazing some of the features on the Mac. Of course there are the regular effects, black and white, comic book, etc. But you also have the “fun house mirror” effects, like you see at sports games. It’s been fun just getting to play around with it, but of course, I’ve still got tons to learn!
I had been hearing about this new Electric Cigarette but had never seen one. My son said he saw a guy with one in McDonald’s. Then, I realized I saw a guy at Target with one. He was coming out of the store as I was going in. I was surprised he had been smoking in the store, since there are public smoking bans in our area. Then, I realized it must be one of those new electronic ones. I could only smell the smoke just as I passed him rather than a large cloud surrounding him (I am very sensitive to cigarette smoke and so this is something I noticed.) I guess these new cigarettes are allowed in public places?
I had heard that deaths due to second hand smoke are on the decline. I guess that is what Andy Gray means when he uses the term “green smoke cigarettes” in his blog. He talks about his switch to the electronic kind, and how much he likes the new cigarettes. He even provides a savings code. I guess if you are going to continue to smoke, the good I can see from switching is the smoke is much less offensive to those around you and the lack of cancer inducing chemicals in these new cigarettes.
The kids opened their time capsules from the year 2000. We found inside newspapers, photos, hand prints, Star Wars figures (unopened) and some papers that had drawings and writings/dictations the kids had done. It was fun looking at the pictures and reading their predictions for the year 2010.
My daughter had said that she predicted she would be 13 and, she is! She said cars would be “regular” and we would use speaker phones. She was surprised though to pull out a newspaper talking about the “internet and its capabilities” and its popularity!
My son only wanted to read the sports pages from ten years ago. Yankees had won the World Series then too! He was interested to see the top books and other top items from a decade ago. It was cute to see some things he had written, particularly the names of his friends (many of whom he still has.)
Then the kids added a bit more to the time capsule before closing it back up. They each added another newspaper along with letters to themselves. In these letters, they put some goals and ideas for themselves. My daughter had fun making a list of her “favorites” but was unsure about the letter until I assured her that I was not going to make her read the letter to me and that I would not read it.
This will likely be the last time they add to their time capsules. After all, in another ten years my son will be nearly 30 and even now recognizes that by that time, ten years will not bring as many changes. It is rather disconcerting to think that the next decade will bring me to having grown children and likely grandchildren! (How did I get to be so old!!) But, I will have “treasured all these things in my heart”. And many of these are timeless treasures.
