back at it

I am trying to get back into my training. Taking off most of the week has driven me crazy. I have done my knee exercises and iced it nearly every day. The swelling has gone down but it still seems a little swollen or something behind the knee. I don’t know if it has been this way for a while or if something is not exactly right. I did a little running on the treadmill yesterday and today I swam ten laps and ran 3.5 miles on the treadmill. So far, it’s not any worse than usual. No pain. So I am thinking I will be able to get back into the training next week (just as the cold weather has set in!) I don’t know if I will be doing another half marathon any time too soon, but am looking at a sprint (short course) triathlon at the end of May. I do like having a goal for my training. It makes it more worthwhile, easier to stick with, more meaning to it and less mundane. I guess that can be said for pretty much anything in life.

  1. I’ve had to take the past 5-6 days off from running too, with some pain in my heel — same spot as a previous injury, but on the other foot! :-( Having experienced it before, and taken so long to get over it, I decided it was best not to risk it this time.

I am about to head out for a short run this afternoon and see if it is feeling better today. (I am hoping it is feeling good enough to do 16 laps in 2 days to celebrate my oldest nephews big day!)

  2. NICE! I hope you can make it! he says “WOW”! I wonder if that pain is the plantar faciitis that I’ve experienced. at least you know the stretching, etc so keep at it. good luck!

  3. Well, I didn’t run this morning, as I have plans for a long-ish run with a friend tomorrow (she couldn’t make it today). I ended up swimming sixteen laps instead… and I’m tired!!!! I’m not a very good swimmer, so had to take lots of breaks in between, but at least I’ll be better prepared for my mini-triathlon later this year.

  4. hey, sixteen laps is good! I am excited about your mini tri!! when and where is it?? wish I could join you! thanks for thinking of us today!! :)

  5. It is at East Coast Park, sometime in July (schedule not out yet). I’ll be doing the shortest course — 200 m swimming, 10 k biking, 2 k run.

  6. how cool!! I wish I could join you! that is a great first time distance!! 200m swim is what, about four laps? and 10k bike will be easy for you and so will the run! I hope it’s fun for you!!
