After running my half marathon last month, I knew it was time for some new shoes. I have been wearing the Brooks Adrenaline and they have been really good for me. But in an attempt to save a few bucks, I bought my most recent pairs online. I did buy Brooks Adrenalines, but they were a previous model. I ran in them for a couple of weeks and then suddenly they began really hurting my left foot. I have tried using another pair to run in this week but I am still feeling the pain. I don’t know if the difference in the models can really be so different as to cause that much pain but it is all I can attribute it too. I did not have any foot pain during my training and after the race. I am hoping to go to the shoe store tomorrow and talk with them about the differences in models. I am pretty sure I will be coming home with an expensive pair of shoes tomorrow. So much for saving a few bucks!

Nothing like going to the store to get a favorite and ending up with something not quite right.

This is unrelated, but I saw this call for articles in Hope Clark’s writers’ newsletter and thought that it might fit well with some of the ideas you talk about here and on your seeds blog:

I often find that saving a few bucks on shoes costs me a lot more in the long run. I am not a big spender on clothes generally, but don’t mind paying a little extra for shoes.
A friend of mine who is a coach recommended to me that I try Mizuno shoes for running. That’s what I bought recently. I don’t quite like the look (color) of the ones I bought, but they have worked out to be quite comfortable so far. Other than that, I usually stick to either Adidas or New Balance for sports shoes. Nikes always hurt my feet.
But I have certainly found that changing the model of shoes I buy makes a huge difference. Even from the older model to the newer of the same shoe, I often experience some difficulty.

I usually do spend the extra on shoes too. pay for it otherwise! I didn’t know that using an older/newer model of the same shoe would pose that much of a problem! I did find some of this same model online so will probably buy them to have for next round too (the newest models don’t feel as good as these….)
my husband likes mizuno. but I have to stick with the brooks for the pronation support.

It seems strange that the shoe is only affecting one foot as I would have thought both feet should feel the pain. Have you checked inside to see if there is anything in the sole?

I think that’s weird too! there is nothing inside. my friend said that when you start running long distances, your feet change so maybe that’s all it is. I don’t know. it’s just not exactly right though….
