We desperately need a new computer. This one is not too old, but we did buy it refurbished. That really didn’t work out so well. It’s never been a great computer. And now, it is slow and we lose our internet connection all the time (ok, I am not convinced that is the computer but might even be something about Mozilla, Yahoo and/or Comcast!)
At any rate, a new computer would be nice. As I have no knowledge of all things computer, my first source for info on any subject is the internet. I found out that Geeks.com carries a wide selection of computers, parts, and tons of other electronics too! They even buy close out, excess inventory and overstock from vendors needing to liquidate quickly! You can read merchant reviews for Geeks.com and Geeks.com seller ratings, which is always a good idea when dealing with online businesses.

Commiserations are warranted here.
Modern computers suck, even professionals can not keep them running well.
I have two tricks for you:
1) Buy an all up system from one of the big boys like Dell, HP or Apple. These guys have sorted out most of the common problems and tend to provide all necessary software updates as needed. These are some of the elementary things that the professional is equipped to do.
2) Get a backup program like Acronis and backup the operating system disk. There is more to it than just backing up. Only backup the initial installation. Every time you want to add some software, restore the original installation add your software then do another backup. To do this you have to learn about backup and restore, unavoidable. This method has been devised to get around the issues of your computer getting polluted with the crap that is unavoidable these days. It is this pollution that degrades your computer.
